Government of the Province of Carinthia – Department for Foreign Affairs/Refugee Office

The Refugee Office was founded as a reaction to large numbers of Serbian, Kosovo-Albanian, Bosnian and Croatian refugees entering Carinthia during the Balkan crisis of the 1990s. Since then, the Refugee Office has been providing a well-structured support system including a variety of services for asylum seekers and refugees. At the moment, the largest groups of refugees come from Chechnya, Serbia, Kosovo, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. Others come from states of the former USSR and a variety of Asian and African states such as Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
