Livstycket has developed its own concept with respect to pedagogy and a working model: functional pedagogy, which means “learning by doing”. Under professional leadership the participants/students work to improve their command of the Swedish language, train to improve their self-esteem and through theoretical and practical application they learn about daily-life in Sweden, an area essential for them to function successfully in the Swedish community. This work is integrated with creative and artistic expression primarily within areas of textile techniques such as sewing, textile printing, embroidery and weaving but also by working with the aid of computers. Livstycket’s unique products and patterns created at the school are on sale to members of the public in the shop located on the premises and also via a variety of external co-operations. During the past few years the operations have been financed principally by the City of Stockholm and by EU funding.

Livstycket Production Ltd (Livstycket Produktion AB)

The production company is wholly owned by the non-profit association Livstycket. The company manages the planning, marketing and sales of the products produced by the participant activities in the association. Livstycket Production Ltd is responsible for all related financial accounting. This regards purchasing costs for textiles, colouring agents and other consumable materials as well as the income from sales of products and the reimbursement of the association for the company’s share of rental for the premises etc. The purpose of the company is to maintain a clear distinction between the socially focused operations in the association and the business focused operations comprising the marketing and sales of Livstycket’s products.
